Featuring the original Hartford Whalers logo designed in 1979 by Peter Good.

As the popularity of this sports symbol without a team continues to increase, it’s a surprise to many,
especially its designer, Peter Good.
Its history begins 42 years ago, in 1979, when the New England Whalers moved to Connecticut,
joined the NHL, and became the Hartford Whalers.
Eighteen years later the team was sold, moved again and renamed the Carolina Hurricanes.
Today, this two decade absence has not diminished enthusiasm for the team and its popular logo.
Iconic in the realm of all sports identities, it is
ubiquitous among the visually aware. Even non-sports fans have discovered its appeal.
Much as been said and written about the excellence of
this mark. Its designer offers a one sentence explanation:

I call it a marriage of convenience between a whale’s tail,
a letterform W and their offspring,
essentially the negative H.
